Joint Action for Sustainable Green and Blue Economy in Mauritius and Seychelles
17 December 2024
In 2022 six United Nations agencies in Mauritius and Seychelles - UNEP, UN ECA, UNDP, UNFPA, ILO, IOM - pooled their skills and knowledge to enable the two small island states to advance their climate action ambitions. Similar to other small island states both countries are vulnerable to the repercussions of climate change including the increasing frequency and intensity of weather events such as cyclones and floods, shrinking coastlines, rising sea levels, and marine pollution impacting the daily lives of the people.
Working in partnership with the Government of Mauritius and Government of Seychelles, this collective project financed by the Joint SDG Fund aimed to address the twin goals of sustainable Green and Blue economies and long-term inclusive growth. In Mauritius the project has focused on advancing the transition to renewable energy while in Seychelles the priority has been on circular economy and addressing solid waste.
The UN is committed to joint action to address the climate crisis. It is our shared commitment and readiness to support each other that will bring the transformative results we all want to achieve through this project – a safer, more resilient and inclusive future.
